Help imagine a better world, one miniature at a time!

 

Call for Submissions:

Utopias Bach is inviting submissions of works from miniaturists around the world. Selected works will be shown at a Micro EXPO Bach, taking place in North Wales UK and online, 11 and 12 June 2022.

We are looking for miniatures that help us imagine the world a better place for humans and more-than-humans of all kinds, especially those who are most badly affected by the current state of the world.

Submissions are eligible in any language or any format - images, sound, video or physical miniature works.

Open to ALL. Entry is FREE!

Inspiration

Since lockdown 2020, Utopias Bach has been exploring how can we re-imagine the world in small ways, working with the radical imagination and connections to our local places and across the world, starting from where we are, in our communities.

We LOVE miniatures! Creating miniatures (physical miniatures, or mini events or sounds or performances) is one of the ways we use to release the imagination, to think through ideas and ‘what if…’.

Often miniatures are sweet or nostalgic, touching our hearts in a way that nothing else can. But we are experimenting with ways of making that power of miniature future-focused, ways of expressing ideas for change.

Or see Malenkiy Piket, new form of protest against the #war in #Ukraine is spreading in #St Petersburg. People make with all kinds of tiny material figurines they hold signs, flags and more against the war and then place these mini-protesters around the city in the most disappeared places. Finally, they take a photo and send it to the #Instagram account malenkiy_piket (small protest)

 

Re-imagining the EXPO

“Expos” are huge global events organised by governments and costing lots of money, materials, impact on the local community etc etc.

The current world EXPO is running to the end of March 2022 in Dubai, with the theme “create, collaborate and innovate”.

Our Micro EXPO Bach is Utopias Bach’s response to the huge global EXPO movement. Our own tiny revolution, it will be an EXPO of the people’s imagination: our ideas, dreams, things we can do for a better world. We hope it will show the world that small things can be significant.
