Gwaith efo ysgolion / work with schools
Seran Dolma, Lindsey Colbourne, Samina Ali and Mark Gahan have been working with Rural Futures and Ysgol Siôn Cwilt school in Ceredigion, and Ysgol y Ffridd in Gwalchmai, and connecting to the British School in Malawi via Wanda Zyborska.
Six sessions with each of the schools in Wales will lead up to a Story Studio in the local communities, putting children’s ideas and visions at the heart of community planning. We’ll be sharing our materials, plans, learnings and so on on our schools page (currently underconstruction!)
“Bydd hyn yn rywbeth gwerth chweil i’r plant ac yn codi eu calonnau gan ein bod wedi cael ein taro yn eithaf drwg gyda’r Covid yma yng Ngwalchmai yn ddisgyblion a staff.” Henry Jones, Prifathro, Ysgol y Ffridd

Arts Council Wales Connect and Flourish funding!
We are so delighted to have heard this month that we’re receiving funding from Arts Council Wales’ “Connect and Flourish” fund! This is in itself a little bit of Utopia, as the competition was strong and they were hugely over-subscribed. The Arts Council said:
“This is an innovative proposal underpinned by strong collaborations that are freelance-artist focused and an approach that is responsive to different communities needs and ambitions.”
Many much needed projects didn’t get through, and we would like to thank Arts Council Wales for their faith in Utopias Bach.
We want to be as transparent as possible about our funding. And will be working out a way to do that over the next few months.
The money will enable the ‘core partners’ (Lisa Hudson, Wanda Zyborska, Samina Ali, Julie Upmeyer and Lindsey Colbourne) to spend a few days a month over the next year supporting Utopias Bach. It will also support artists and ‘community connectors’ to work in an open-ended way with people and communities who don’t have a voice in the mainstream.
The money means we can also support the work of our Awdur Preswyl, Resident Author (Seran Dolma) and a ‘participant observer’ (Francis Williams).
There is also some money to support the running and documenting of our processes, including our Collabatory meetings.
So, more on all this soon! We really hope as many of you as possible will get the opportunity to work with us, develop new strawberry-lets and share learning, skills and insights
With many thanks to Plas Bodfa Projects for being our ‘host organisation’.
